21 Days to Freedom
Day 2 — The Lie: "I Have to Earn God's Love"
Key Scripture
• Romans 5:8
• Ephesians 2:8–9
• 1 John 4:19
Devotional
Many people know God loves them yet live as though they must continually earn His affection. They believe God loves them more when they pray longer, serve more faithfully, or avoid mistakes. When they fail, they imagine God pulling away in disappointment.
But the gospel tells a different story. God didn't wait for you to become lovable. He loved you while you were still a sinner. His love isn't a reward for good behavior—it's the foundation from which we learn to live in obedience.
Obedience doesn't earn God's love; it is our loving response to the love He has already given.
Reflection
• Do I believe God is pleased with me only when I perform well?
• How do I respond when I fail?
• Am I living as a beloved child or as someone trying to earn acceptance?
Prayer
Father, thank You that Your love is not based on my performance. Help me rest in Your grace and live from the security of being Your child.
Walking in Truth
Spend five quiet minutes simply thanking God for loving you. Resist the urge to ask Him for anything. Just receive His love.
Declaration
I do not earn God's love. I receive God's love. I am His beloved child.
